Threads of Connection Grant to Roll Out in Geranium

ree

The Geranium Community Hub is thrilled to share that we've received full funding through the Australia Post Community Grant program. This support will help us launch a new sewing group, aimed at building hands-on skills, encouraging creativity, and creating a regular, relaxed social space for locals of all ages.

Practical Sewing with Purpose

The new sewing group will focus on up-cycling clothing, especially pieces sourced from the op shop, and giving them a new lease on life. From repairing favourite jeans to turning shirts into tote bags or cushion covers, we’ll be exploring fun and achievable sewing projects that help reduce waste and stretch the budget.

We’ll also cover DIY home projects like curtain making, learning to sew basic garments, or getting comfortable with a sewing machine if you're just starting out. No experience is necessary, and everyone is welcome to come along and give it a go.

A special thank you goes to Meredith Lithgow, who has made this program possible through her generous loan of her sewing machines, tools, and materials. Meredith previously ran a commercial sewing business from the old school buildings and has been a long-time advocate for the local community. Thanks to Meredith's support, the sewing group will be well-equipped from day one.

Strengthening Connection Through Creativity

In a time when small communities like ours are feeling the strain of reduced services and ongoing seasonal challenges, this grant couldn’t have come at a better time. It will help bring people together in a supportive, low-pressure environment where learning and laughter go hand-in-hand.

We’re extremely grateful to Australia Post for recognising the value of projects like this and for investing in small communities where connection, creativity, and wellbeing are so closely linked.

Keep an eye out for more details on session times, we can’t wait to get sewing!
